A profession of love, a statement of faith and a homage to the 1960s and 70s, the new Schalke home shirt, which can be ordered online here, dispenses with the collar and button placket and has contrasting white trim around the classical V-neck and the sleeves. The socks continue the theme with a striking white horizontal stripe. The outfit pays fond homage to the 1960s and 70s and retains the traditional colours requested by so many fans, i.e. blue shirt and white shorts.
The new kit will be unveiled at the main store on the club complex this Thursday, starting at 1600 CET with a visit by mascot Erwin and a target-shooting challenge. From 1630 to 1930 there will be autograph-signing sessions with Alexander Baumjohann, Marco Höger, Atsuto Uchida and Julian Draxler. In addition, the store will stay open until 2000 as part of a late-night promotion to allow supporters the chance to buy the new kit and other items of merchandise.
The new shirt prominently showcases the strong FC Schalke 04 brand, sporting the club name in thinner and more elegant lettering on the back that is now positioned above the shirt number, with the player’s name below. There is a clear reason for this, as marketing director Alexander Jobst explains: “It’s a question of philosophy. For a very big club – and that’s what Schalke are – I think it’s self-evident that the club name should be at the top. No player, no matter how popular he is, can be bigger than the club.”
Other features include a neck strip on the inside of the collar bearing the Schalke statement of faith, “Blau und Weiß, wie lieb‘ ich Dich” [Blue and white, how I love you], and additional blue trim around the crest with the club’s full name: F.C. Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 e.V.
