“I think that we’ll be able to represent the tradition of the Galaxy in our new kits so it should be exciting for everybody,” said Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena. “Our new kit is not only sharp and modern, but also represents the tradition of the Galaxy. [The new kit] is really sharp and I think the fans are going to be surprised when they see the third kit down the road as well.”
This new away kit honors the Galaxy’s illustrious Club history. The front of the new kit features three silver championship stars honoring previous MLS titles and one gold star celebrating last season’s championship. Embossed quasar art is highlighted on the right shoulder and left hem, and fan-inspired “This is LA” appears on the jock tag.
“We’re staying with the blue theme and we’re really kind of focusing in on the quasar,” said adidas product manager Mike Walker about the design which also appears on the back neck tape. “We’ve got the embossed pattern of that quasar that kind of runs through their home primary on the sash, but now it’s embossed on the away up on the right shoulder and also on the left hem.”
“We have a call-out that goes back to the fans with a ‘This Is LA,’ which is one of the interpretations of their tifo that they’ve done during games,” continued Walker.
“The three stripes on the jersey also are now printed three stripes so we’ve tried to be even faster and lighter with that, reducing weight as much as we can,” Walker said. “So that was a great touch that we could put into that jersey.”
