Last Thursday Nike revealed the USA National World Cup soccer jersey. The presentation was in Niketown of in New York City On Thursday I went to Niketown in New York City. The jersey is inspired on the home kit of USA National team wore in 1950, where the team beat England in one of the most memorable matches of the World Cups.
At the presentation notable players and coaches of all time were present. From Bob Bradly, current coach, to Eric Winalda and Walter Bahr (who was part of the team that played that 1950’s match), they all welcomed in good spirits the vintage design of the shirt. Winalda even joked that the kit used in ‘94 should be erased from all historical records (he was one of starts of that world cup and the design was made by Adidas)
As mentioned previously in our site, all Nike Jerseys for the South Africa 2010 are made of recycled plastic from plastic bottles. The kits are also 13% lighter than before. An emblem with the letters DTOM (which stands for “Don’t Tread On Me”) together with a snake where added to the shirt below the USA crest. That slogan was used in 2006 World Cup’s advertising campaigns.
The new shirt also has a diagonal grey stripe, described by Bahr as a “shadow”. Nike designers might use this kind of stripe for future USA Nike Jerseys.

I love this jersey! I like the diagonal strip, otherwise it would be too simple. I like the clean design. Unfortunately, I still think USA National team sucks!
