Real Madrid Soccer Jersey

Real Madrid Soccer Jersey

Real Madrid Soccer Jersey

History

The first Real Madrid soccer jersey completely white, very straight forward design, with just the initials of the club “MCF” stamped on it, standing for the original name of the institution: Madrid Club de Futbol. The first changes made were in 1908, when the Club changed the font used in the logo where changed. Also, the distinctive circle around the initials was introduced. Not until Pedro Parages, in 1920, changes where introduced to the uniform. During that time, the current king of Spain, Alfonso XIII conceded the club his patronage, which resulted in the addition of the popular word among La Liga teams: “Real” (which in English means Royal.) Because of this, King Alfonso’s crown was added to the insignia of the institution and the club was renamed to Real Madrid Club de Futbol.

All references to the monarchy were eliminated as a consequence of the end of monarchy. The crown and the title Real were removed and replaced by a dark mulberry band representative of the Region of Castilla (Castile Region) in 1931. Two years after the end of Civil War, in 1941, the real crown was restored while they kept the logo of Castile Region (which was a stripe). They added colors, most prominently gold. They restored also the Real to the name as well. The next change to the logo of the club was made in 2001 to adapt it to more modern logo. They changed the mulberry color of the stripe typical of Castila for a more bluish version.

The traditional colors of Real Madrid were all white for the home uniform except for the socks which where dark blue (changed later to the now classic white), and different varying degrees of purple for the away soccer kit (once it was black.) At some point a diagonal stripe was used which was turned down (but kept in the insignia of the club.) They modeled what became their current jersey to Corinthian F.C. from the beginnings of the XX century.  Along with that change they changed the blue socks for black ones. By the 1940s the kit was once again changed by adding buttons. Also they change the location of the insignia to the left (as it is today.) During a match against their Madrid archrival’s  Atletico de Madrid, they became the first Spanish team to wear soccer shirts numbered.

The kit is currently manufactured by Adidas, which started the contract with the club in 1998. The first sponsor that was used in the soccer jersey was Zanussi for the 1982 to 1985 seasons. After that, Real Madrid soccer jersey had Parmalat, Otaysa and Teka sponsors. One season they promoted their website Realmadrid.com in their uniform. A deal with Siemens Mobile was reached in 2002 and in 2006 BenQ Siemens logo was used for the first time in the shirt. The current sponsor of Real Madrid is bwin.com, after the financial problems of BenQ Siemens.

  1. Where can I get a Real Madrid soccer replica numbered with Cristiano Ronaldo’s name in the back? I am afraid if I buy one of the jerseys in ebay is going to a fake replica.

  2. There are some vendors that offer original numbered jerseys on ebay. However, I always prefer to buy my jerseys in stores such as World Soccer Shop or http://www.soccer.com.
