When scanned, fans are taken to a website where they will be updated with information on the boot as Penalty develop it. It is a pretty simple idea that offers an excellent opportunity for fans to see how a company creates a boot.

Victor Valdes debuted the White/Black prototype this past weekend vs Real Zaragoza, and the Penalty site has since been updated. Their goal with this one is to continually have fans coming back to see what new information is available on the boots. It will be interesting to see how fans take to this one and if it turns out to be an ingenious marketing strategy!

The “blaugranas” nickname, known worldwide, comes from the blue and carmine colors of the stripes of the soccer jersey.  There are several theories of why FC Barcelona adopted such colors. One of the theories is that the first president adopted the colors for the uniform  from the Merchant Taylor’s school team. Another theory is that the colors are from Robiespierre’s First Republic. The most accepted theory is that the uniform adopted the colors of FC Basel, which was Joan Gamper’s home team.

FC Barcelona is one of the few soccer teams in the world that has never worn corporate advertisement in their soccer jersey. In 2006, Joan Laporta announced that the club had reached a five year agreement with UNICEF to include their logo in their shirt. Among one of the features of the agreement is the donation, from the part of FC Barcelona, 1.5 million Euros per year to UNICEF. By 2011-2012 season, FC Barcelona will add a corporate logo to their jersey’s design for the first time in their history. The club signed a five year agreement with  Qatar Foundation for $150 million euros.
FB Barcelona’s crest includes the St George’s Cross, the Catalonian Flag, and the colors of the city of their soccer jersey. The club adopted a crest since their first official game. The original crest was a quartered diamond-shaped one by 2 branches, one of a laurel tree and one of a palm. In order to come up with a new crest, the club held a competition in 1910 the winner was Carles Comamala, who was also a FC Barcelona player. The club adopted his design until today, with small variations.
