Traditionally tailored by Umbro, this stunning new kit marks a re-birth of the British Home Nations and is styled upon one of the most iconic moments in Welsh football – May 1977 England 0-1 Wales.
Take a closer look…
Inspired by the kit worn in The Dragons’ infamous 1-0 win over England in 1977, this special design is fitted with a smart polo collar and the classic yellow and green stripe to the body.
Wales, the 1976 European Championship quarter-finalists, went into the match as underdogs having last tasted victory in the 1936 British Home Championships. However, Leighton James’ first-half penalty proved enough for Mike Smith’s men to claim their first and only ever win over England at Wembley Stadium.
35 years later, Chirs Coleman’s men hope to take inspiration from past glories, as the ex-Fulham boss rebuilds for 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification!
Behind the Scenes…
This week JJB Sports got an exclusive look at the new kit as the squad trained for tonight’s international friendly match against Bosnia-Herzegovnia in Llanelli. And after a FAW media conference, Gareth Bale, captain Aaron Ramsey and man-of-the-moment Joe Allen got their hands on Umbro’s latest creation for the first time!
The verdict? “Our best kit in years”. On display for the first time tonight, this new design will be worn as Wales take on Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, Scotland and Macedonia in Group A of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification.
And as always with Umbro, the latest men’s Wales Home Jersey 12/13 is crafted with lightweight and breathable fabric – designed to keep players cool and comfortable for peak performance on the pitch!
